What is meant by HKS?

The HKS is a colour system which contains 120 spot colours and 3250 tones for coated and uncoated paper. HKS colours, similar to the Pantone colours, are used for any kind of print publication to produce predictable colours.

What is meant by Lamination?

A very thin piece of protective film is applied to the card. This helps to give the card a nicer appearance and thicker feel, whilst improving durability. Altogether, a more professional finish.

What is meant by Bleed?

This is the print area that extends beyond the edge of the finished, trimmed document (1mm each side, 3mm for posters). This enables the document elements to extend to the edge of the finished product.

What is meant by Quiet area?

Any important text or images should be placed at least 3mm (5mm for posters) from the edge of the document. This prevents anything important being lost in the trimming process.

What is meant by Dispersion varnish?

This is a particular finish applied to certain matt paper products. A water based varnish which gives a 'silk' finish, which also helps protect the product from abrasion, finger marks etc.
